About a year ago my friend Lis told me about a method she uses for lotion… and that method involves one ingredient… “COCONUT Oil.”
I will be honest… when she 1st told me used this for a moisturizer, I thought she was crazy. The 1st things that came into my mind were …
“uh…. don’t you cook with that?”
“Doesn’t it break you out!? its OIL!”
I also kept thinking about how much I enjoy putting lotion on… I love the feeling of a good lotion.
My skin though is very sensitive. I have had eczema all over my arms and legs ever since I was a teen. My eczema isn’t as bad as some, but it is bad enough. My arms year round if touched feel like they have small goosebumps.
Also on portions of my shoulders have what they call “crackle eczema.” This means it has the appearance of small cracks. This normally only breaks out during the winter, thankfully.
I am thankful the Lord gave me a really good tan :)
It helps hide the eczema very well.
Back to the coconut oil.
I decided to give this a go…
The way coconut oil works is that you buy it in the grocery dept. of most stores… It is a healthier alternative for cooking oil BTW. When you look at coconut oil it looks solid. Kind of like the inside of a coconut :)
Once coconut oil reaches the temp. of 77 F , it becomes liquid.
So the way I use the oil is that I put a bunch of it in a glass measuring bowl (with a spout). I then put that measuring bowl in hot water… until it was totally clear liquid.
Once liquid, I poured it into a small $1.00 travel bottle I grabbed at walmart. The bottle is located in the travel dept… meant for packing small portions of shampoo or lotion.
Once the bottle was full of the clear oil I then put the lid on.
Whenever I take a shower I place the bottle of oil I made into a small cup of hot water. When I get out of the shower the oil is ready to go.
I then squirt on small portions of the oil in my hand… rub it on just like lotion.
It really works great!!
I even use it on my face… but only at night.
I have found that if I use this on my face in the morning, that my face is a tad to oily… and looks shiny.
The oil though did not break me out! I love how soft it made my face…
It has been two weeks sine I started using 100% all coconut oil… and I could not be more pleased.
My skin has never felt softer.
I hear you can even use this for hot oil treatments on your hair :) instead of conditioner.
If you have any questions feel free to comment… ill try my best to answer them. :) If you are a coconut oil user, comment and let us know your love! :-D
