Never to late for Christmas lights…

Tonight while grabbing a few groceries… I ran into a client of mine. We got to chatting and she told me she was taking her boys to see the lights in a nearby town. I meant to find a place with lots of Christmas lights before Christmas to take my boys… but totally forgot. So when she mentioned this I was immediately interested.

_MG_4084I got the details from her and after supper we headed that way.

As you can see… those lights brought our boys joy :)

It looked like a wonderland as you pulled up. Was really neat.

The man who puts this on was standing at the entrance welcoming those who pulled up. We got to chat with him for a sec. (our 2nd time through) and he was telling us how it all got started. His daughter was killed at age 16 in a car accident… and the lights all started after her death… he put up a hand painted angle he made by the mail box… and from there it just grew. Its been 14 years I believe he said since her death… and each year they add more.

Was a touching story… He seemed like a sweet man.

I hated we didnt have much spare cash on us to give.. they had a donation box… but we seriously only had 2 bucks. I told Travis I want to go back and give him a disc of the pictures I took. Its nothing fancy… I just took them from our car window as we drove through… but the man may like to have them… So why not.

Heres a few more photos:

The sign they had up before entering this place said there were over 425,000 lights… WOW.. The man who talked to us was telling us it takes 3 months to set everything up… Yes that means he takes this stuff down yearly!! Can you imagine?? and I think its a lot of work to put up on christmas tree lol.

*Note: To those worried about my kids not buckled in a moving mini van… we gave them permission to stand up and look out the window as we drove through the lights.. it was a mans gravel driveway turn around… so we were going all of 5mph… it was totally safe :)*

That’s beautiful! No wonder he leaves it up past Christmas. That’s a ton of work!

Those were great. I’m sure he would love a CD of the images. A friend of mine in Greensboro lost her brother when he was 19. Her parents started something similar and now their whole cul de sac does it. Her parents say it is so he can see their home from heaven. Such a sweet way to remember someone.
