Sleep Deprived pick Up – Babywearing Husband

IMG_9688Our routine the past few nights has been for me to keep Owen most of the night… since im nursing theres really no point for Travis to stay up in the room with us.. so hes been using our guestroom/nursery to catch a few Zzz’s.

Around 4 or 5am I have been feeding Owen for the last time at night.. (or should I say morning) and after that feeding Travis then takes over… and gives me a break.

At like 8:15am today he got me up… we had a Dr’s apt to go to at 10:15am and so I had to have time to shower and nurse before leaving (which btw did not work out haha, I ended up nursing Owen at the Dr’s office in the car!).

As I got up this is what I saw…

My husband just looked at me and was like “I know its not right… but I tried.”

I immediately grabbed my camera and took a photo :)

Now to those who have heard about the SLING RECALL recently… and the baby deaths caused by them.

The sling my husband is wearing is safe… BUT NOT THE WAY HE HAS IT ON. Owen was fine tho and was only in it a few minutes that way. But to often people wear baby carriers wrongly and because of that injury can occur and the joy of babywearing is often not there.

This is the right way to wear a baby in a ring sling…

You want baby up high… so high that if I wanted to I could kiss his little head. Also you want it TIGHT and not saggy. In this particular hold I had Owen CRADLED to the side.. but most times he prefers to be worn TUMMY TO TUMMY with his legs curled under.

Babywearing is wonderful and such a joy. It also has been a big relief and help with Owen since hes gassy. One of the one things I have found works at calming his gas is to wear him in the Sleepy Wrap.

Note: If you use the COUPON CODE “Unique” at check out on Sleepy Wrap you can get 10% off your purchase!

The sling I am wearing and my husband is wearing (wrongly hehe) is one of my favorite ring slings. Its by Kim at Kimz Kreations! Her slings are so reasonably price!! Wonderfully made and so comfortable.

The one I am wearing is her $30.00 Cotton Muslin Sling w/ Slate Rings.

You can read more about carriers I’ve tried HERE.

Heres a few more photos taken today with the sling on…

I think its sweet the way Travis tried to help. My hubby would be sitting on the couch playing Wii with the kid next to him. Yes, he did this after both our kids were born. I hope Owen begins sleeing more of the night soon.

Travis is sooo cute!!! He tried that is the most important thing :-)

The whole gassy not sleeping well nursing deal will get better, I know not sleeping well is no fun but it won’t last, soon enough you’ll be sleeping trough the night again :-)

And it’s great that your sweet husband give you a break for you to catch some Zzzz, what a blessing he is :-)

PS all those pictures are amazing :-)

Even though he’s wearing it wrong, that is so precious! Love it!
To make just one comment from your last few posts…
My first son had colic really bad. The best thing we found was the he would sleep on us. And sleeping on his stomach – like chest to chest worked best. It’s hard, but at least he did sleep. So you can lay reclining on the couch or be propped up in bed with pillows. We didn’t find that the gripe water or mylicon drops helped significantly. :( Although sometimes it’s just really hard to tell. But at least the gripe water is more natural.
Oh, and my ankles swelled up a lot about 3 days after giving birth. Now they’ve gone down and my midwife said that was fairly normal. Hope yours are down too!
    Good luck with everything

Hey, I just had to tell you that I was wearing my sleepy wrap today at co-op and in Aldi’s. Turns out my shirt was bunched up my back, LOL! I didn’t feel it because I was wearing my cheapo belly band (a cami cut to size). How embarrassing :-)

haha, that is awesome! It’s so funny how sweet our hubs are to help out! I’m pregnant with our first, and this would be something my husband would probably do, so cute! :) (I love reading your blog, my husband is in ministry too, he’s a youth pastor!) Owen is just precious!
