You’re Dark – But I do use Protection :)

IMG_3404 copyIs it weird that I find humor in my blog post titles? :) – Its either make something up off the top of my head, or put a boring date as the title. The top of my head titles seem more fun.

Lately I have gotten A LOT of comments on how dark I am.
Even today in the line at Marshalls – a total stranger said “Wow…. you’ve been in the sun a lot! You are really dark.” - When really I don’t think I am “that dark” – I am just “darker.” – none the less, I do use sun screen almost every time I am at the pool and even wear SPF protective natural mineral make up to help as well.

It doesn’t seem to stop my skin from soaking up the sun.
I can sit out with the kids in the pool for 45 minutes and I already have a very visible tan line. So much so that the bathing suit I am wearing in the photo to the right w/ my friend Heather – becomes strapless most pool trips. That way I am not left with a V down the front of my chest.

That panamanian gene my mom passed onto me, just results in darker skin.
Which I personally think is nice to have :) – for the most part.

Oh and for those curious the bathing suit I found, is from Target (I got it on clearance for 20 bucks! – wish I had it in purple rather than Navy, but I wont be picky since I saved). Its not maternity, but its SOOOO stretchy because of the material used, it is also a size up from what Id typically wear… so I have confidence it will fit me throughout the summer :) – I had no luck finding a maternity to fit. Most were way to big on me. I do also have a maternity one however from my pregnancy with Caleb, that should fit towards the end of the summer as well. So if I out grow this one, I do have a back up.

Its now time to go lay down, while the kids and my parents rest. Then this afternoon we look forward to relaxing at the pool again, grilling some and just enjoying the beautiful weather.

I LOVE your blog titles. The funnier the better! I mean, I’ll admit, I saw this on Facebook and had to know what the post was about!

Looks like you are having a great summer already with your kids and parents.

My daughter has a darker complexion and admittedly I have sometimes forgotten to push sunscreen on her. I feel terrible about it because I KNOW that just because she does not burn, protection is kust as important. Bad mommy. Your post has reminded me to stay on top of her putting sunscreen on. I am sure I will get the 14 year old eye roll when requesting she put it on but ….oh well. ;)

So many people think that any type of darker skin pigment shouldn’t be cared for in the sun. We are just as susceptible to skin cancer as our pale friends :-). Oh, and if I’m in the sun too long (like summer band camp too long), I bake and peel, lol.

Wow, that lady in Marshalls was vocal, huh? I can tell you have a naturally tan complexion. I was in Walmart and saw a Caucasian woman darker than me, I was like wow I need to get out in the sun, lol.
