Still battling it

Well, its been at least a month since putting Owen into a big boy bed… and….

We are still battling some issues with it.

IMG_9127 copyNow that it has been so long since he was in the crib, I do feel we are at a point of no return. I think he’d totally flip out if we put him back into a crib… however, battling him with staying in bed – is tiring.

I hate having to discipline at night… but it has to be done. Otherwise he is up every 2 minutes til 10pm. Then up at 6:30am exhausted, cranky and tired… I thought that maybe after a few weeks he’d get the idea… Getting out of bed results in discipline… but… here we are, still battling it.

I’ve tried everything I know to do… since Owen is boy #3 – I thought I had this down. Each kid handles things so different though and he has just thrown me for a loop with this one.

I know this will pass in time.

Better now than the week baby comes :) – but still, not an easy transition.

… but he sure does look sweet, even when he crawls out and sleeps on the floor.

    what kind of discipline do you have to do at night? maybe just reward him for staying in his bed – maybe a new toy to sleep with (in addition to the cute blankey of course)

    My oldest and youngest were like that. Both preferred sleeping on the floor vs their big kid beds. Although I can say that my oldest out grew it after a little while… my youngest (who just turned 3) still does it. While sometimes there is a lot of back and forth and discipline, there are also times he stays quiet in his room just on the floor. I praying he out grows it too. :( This momma’s heart sympathizes with you. I completely know what you are going through. {{{{HUGS}}}}

    I don’t know if he likes tents or how you feel about them, but they make tents that fit perfectly over a twin mattress. They have little straps that hook on the mattress to keep the tent from moving. We have one for our son, and he sleeps so much better in it. It made him look forward to bed time.

    Loving the tent idea. One of my sons did the same thing, preferred the floor over the bed at first. So, we put the crib mattress on the floor in his favorite “spot.” When he would get out of bed, he just gravitated to that spot and slept like a log. I figured the less turmoil, the better we would all sleep. We kept bedtime stories and prayers in the big boy bed and eventually he just stayed there (new Thomas the Tank sheets were probably a part of that). Good luck with Owen, you know this is just a phase. :)

    I totally know how you’re feeling. We have Cole in a crib still, but he crawls out every min till 10pm/. I keep putting him in and he still gets up before 7. SOOO tired of this stage. I don’t have any words of wisdom but that he will grow out of this stage very soon. Some lessons are best learned through getting older. Though it’s SO hard waiting. I had to put a lock on Jacob’s door when he was little. I found him crawling on the kitchen counter in the middle of the night when I was sleeping. I figured his room was child-safe…Great idea with the gate. Does he have a night light?

    I just transitioned my girls (2 & 3-years-old) into their own rooms and their own beds. Luckily, it was easy for me. I simply told them there are rules and once they are in bed, they aren’t allowed to get up unless it’s for a potty-break. To my surprise, they actually listen. I hope you resolve this issue soon and your little one stays in bed because you need your rest.
