Mom

Happy Mothers Day Mom (@ Nana Day)!

This is my mom and I

We love and miss you!

Hands On

We have a lot of good hands on activity in our house hold – well most of the times its good, boy fun… with few injuries :) – This use to make me super nervous, esp. when Taite was only 2… however, its become something I have had to grow use too with all boys. My husband encourages wrestling.

I suppose that day, I was encouraging it too by taking pictures of them :)
& don’t let this photo fool you. Taite often is the one on top. He may be 2 years younger than Caleb, but he can hold his own.

Owen even gets in on this… although we have talk to the boys, and just tell them to let him win and sit on them a few times, haha…

He sure does

Love his blankie :)

Ok and maybe his Mama ;-) – he is attached to both a lot lately. Which is sweet. Except for the times that blanket begins to stink, phew! I can’t keep that thing smelling decent. He chews on it 24-7

Week 17 Ob Apt

So I went to the OB this morning – got there 20 min. early :-\ – didn’t realize that until I got there, so figured we’d go on up and get started on some school work I packed for the boys. When I got there, it was just the boys and I, plus one other couple. Im sure there was a person or two in the back already, but thats about it. It did not seem busy at all.

20 minutes or so later, at my apt. time – I got called back with the boys.

Pee’d in the cup, as usual.

Got weighed….
Ok ill chime in there real fast.

I was fearful of the weighing part. I had not been weighed since week 12 – and at that point I had only gained 1 pound since getting pregnant. Which is about the norm for me. For some reason though I felt the next few weeks build up pretty fast :-\ – and was expecting it to be a big number.

I gained 5lbs. So since getting pregnant, 6.

I don’t think thats BAD but I cant help but think back on Taite’s pregnancy, by 6 mo. pregnant, I had only gained 6 lbs. I know with Taite though I was extremely disciplined with what I ate, I walked miles daily pushing Caleb on the streets of Bellevue Ohio… and I also was 23 years old vs. 28 (almost 29). Im sure those things make a difference :-) – over all 6lbs is “tolerable” for me :) – I am just thankful everything so far has gone well.

So after they weighed me, the boys and I go into the small room where the Dr. will come see you. While in there the nurse went ahead and checked my blood pressure… then left. AN HOUR LATER… at 11 – the Dr. finally came in.

I have no clue why it takes so long sometimes in these places… but can I just say I was beyond annoyed.

Pros to a long wait:

Caleb got ALL his school work done HAHA – except reading.
Taite got all of his schooling done as well.

Those really were the only pros to waiting that long…. I am thankful that at least Owen wasnt with me, he would of been off the walls waiting that long.

The Dr. then came in, 2 minutes later, gone.

It was the shortest apt. I have ever experienced in all my OB visits since having kids. I couldnt help but miss my midwives in NC… This office however only has 1 midwife and she is only in once a month… so my chances of even seeing her are slim.

With medicaid though our freedom to pick our own practice was not happening… we went with who we were able to go to. Now though with Travis’ new job, we are going to have AMAZING insurance… and so I technically can choose a new practice. Part of me wants to… part of me doesn’t. Will it matter?… I mean the Dr. isn’t bad.. he was nice. But with OB’s the support in labor just isn’t the same. My midwife did not leave my side the entire labor with Owen… Where with my other labor experiences, my OB Dr’s were in the room, only when they had to be…

There is a place called Intown Midwifery… it is a bit of a drive from where we live… but it looks amazing. I could transfer there… however I looked up the information regarding the hospital they deliever at… and it had CRUMMY reviews… on its sanitation and staff… so Im not so sure.

Choices :)

I do like the idea that the hospital we would be at now is only 20-25 minutes away.
So ill be closer to home, which will be nice with Travis working – and the boys.

My Gender Ultrasound is schedule for May 31st at 3:30pm. I hate going in the afternoon to places like this, the chances of a long wait are even greater… but Im trying to work it out so that Travis can be there. This will be pushing it… but he is suppose to get off at 3pm right now until July – so Im pretty sure he will make it. I HOPE :) I btw still say boy.

If locals know of a good practice around here w/ midwives (who use a hospital, Travis does not want me having a home birth at all), you can email me privately at drea[at]dreawood.com

Week 17 – Baby #4

week17Today marks week 17. Its going by fast – although when asked my due date, it feels as if Oct. is so far away. I know it will be here before we know it though.

This week has been good.

I am feeling kicks – which is fun. I mostly feel it when I am sitting or laying in bed. According to Baby Center, baby is around 5 inches long and about the size of a Turnip :)

My skin has cleared up A LOT – which is so encouraging for me. No new breakouts. Im sleeping well too.

As for my appetite, its not huge. Although I do eat small meals throughout the day, I am finding I can go a lot longer between meals without any problems. Even at night, where prior to week 12, I would have to eat up until I went to bed… and sometimes at 2 or 3am as well. Was crazy!

The only problems I am having as of now, are some ligament pains due to things growing… and I have had a couple braxton hicks contractions. I know that sounds insane but I have… and I remember this happening with Owen… which makes me a little fearful that I will repeat his pregnancy with this one.

With Owen at 29 weeks I was admitted to the hospital for pre-term labor – and thankfully with some medication they were able to stop it. The thing is, from that point on, I contracted on a regular basis until I had him at 39 weeks. I thought I was in labor 5-6 times. I remember calling my midwife at least 3 times unsure what to do, because Id contract every 5 minutes for hours. Nothing changed though as far as my cervix and things were fine. My midwife told me I just had a very irritable and mean uterus :) – which she said can sometimes happen with having more than 2 kids, esp. if they are closer together. Then again I know people with more than 4 with no trouble at all, so it may just be me.

I find just drinking lots of water… and trying not to over-work my lower abdominal muscles, keeps things from acting up. No heavy lifting… pushing stuff, moving furniture :-\ – that sort of activity just flares up stuff.

I go to the OBGYN tomorrow at 10. I have to take two of our boys with me, as Travis has an apt. to have our van serviced. I am sure the boys will talk the OB’S head off :) – which is always amusing, sometimes annoying, but almost never a bad thing – I like that my kids enjoy talking to adults so easily.

At the apt. ill schedule our gender ultrasound ;-) – they typically do them around 20 weeks at this office.

I still however, say boy ;-) – but we should have a guessing game to see how many get it right. :-D
