I meant to take this the 1st week but forgot.
A group shot of us on the front porch…

I want to take one the day we leave too. Not that it will be any time soon, but when it does happen I thought it be a fun photo(s) to have.
Well.. today was our home school day #1 – of 2011…

Was I ready? well, as best I could be.
Did I want to start? NO.
With all thats happened recently my focus on schooling my boys has not been a joyous thought. Just being honest. Our routine flew the coop once all this happened… add a move to that 2 states away… and well, schooling two kids out of sorts from the changes was not thrilling.
BUT, we had to start some time, so rather than waiting any later :) – we began.
Caleb will be in 1st grade…

- he btw was the only one excited about today – which I was thankful for…
Taite will be in Kindergarten (er… maybe)…

Owen will be… Training :)

As you can see Owen was not having picture taking this morning. He was much more interested in riding bikes or falling on his head. Seriously, the baby has had two falls this week on the road. It is messing with my nerves! Im sure the neighbors on the street are tired of hearing me yell “OWEN WALK.” – But he’s so clumsy he has got to learn to walk more.
Travis and I joked that we would just leave his helmet on at all times while he was outside. His helmet btw I got at the consignment sale at our church for $2.50!! Its pretty much brand new too. I had an old one he used that I got off ebay back in 2005… but that thing was falling apart, so I was thankful for a new helmet for him.
The day went ok.
Caleb did awesome!
He loves to learn and is so excited about it.
Taite on the other hand…
Uhhhhhhhh….
Good grief. CLEAR SIGN THAT BOY IS NOT READY FOR FULL BLOWN KINDERGARTEN. I mean wow… He acted as if I was making his scrub a toilet. I forced him through some, but after an hour of pulling his teeth I was like “Just go play” – I couldn’t stand it a minute longer.
Reminder…
Taite is only 4.
Taite doesn’t turn 5 until late December.
However, Taite has picked up A LOT on Calebs schooling from last year… so at age 4 he knows far more than Caleb did. Which is why I thought he might be ready to start early.
Wrong.
I have friends who’s 4 year olds are starting early… but Taite just is not ready.
I think throughout this year it will be just as much a training process for Taite as it will be for Owen (in different ways). I will work with Taite on certain things… I hope to teach him his phonics and basic math.. but to push him into things much deeper I think will back fire.
Why rush him through it.
Hes 4.
I am in no hurry to rush him off to college :) – but obviously don’t want to hinder him either. So despite my wanting to get him through Kindergarten this year… I don’t think it will happen. Which is ok.
Owen btw was a wreck this morning too.
Travis not having a job may help out… he can entertain Owen.. but I am trying not to depend on that, because there will come a day he will have to begin working again… I dont want to get so dependent on him helping, that once he is gone during school hours – I loose my mind.
The one thing that would really help out right now is if Owen napped in the morning. He refuses most morning naps now :( – which makes schooling while he is awake difficult. It may just be one of those situations where I have to do most of our schooling during Taite and Owen’s afternoon nap – from 1-3.
So day one is done.
Can’t say we have an established routine down…
But at least we got it done :)

I will say, he taught himself his own dance moves :)
- The Piano I got at a consignment sale this past weekend at our church. I had given our other one to a friend and wanted her to keep it, since I knew her kids could use it. They could think of us each time they played ;-) – recently Caleb showed interested in music though (figures!) – so I snagged this up for $10 and all the boys are loving it. Im so glad it has a volume control tho ;-)
