Education Engaged

IMG_0300copy

From before I even became a mom, I remember thinking about what steps we would take as parents to educated our children.

It was something my husband and I talked about on a regular basis… but it wasn’t until my oldest son Caleb got close to that pre-school age that it became very real. I remember at times feeling so overwhelmed and unsure as to what to do.

We are now into our 2nd year of home school and I must say I am so happy with how things are going.

One of the most important things I think as a parent with young children – is to make learning fun. Keep the kids engaged… and don’t be scared to make a trip to the local library. It is such a great resource to help encourage reading and learning.

Nothing excites my kids (especially my 7 year old) more than a trip to find cool books at the library. Especially when I let them pick out a few they really want :) and not just MOM’S picks.

I’m curious to know: What tips or advice do you have for moms prepping for preschool?

Vroom

Can you hear the vroom? :)

If you ever have a bad moment – look at that face, it makes me smile every time.

Go ahead, look again :) – Vroom!

House Tour – I know you want it.

Sooooo, I know you all want a house tour of our new home.

Our other home became so familiar! It was small… and while there were things I disliked about living in a parsonage, that small parsonage was precious to me and my children. I will have memories of it for the rest of my life.

Our new home though…

I must say.

Is beautiful.

Even though this transition has been hard, and there are many more hurdles to come, one thing is certain, we are not lacking in the area of physical comfort.

This post btw is not something I am writing to boast or brag through. I know my family and close friends want to see these types of photos. Since many of them wont be able to see us any more, this is my way of sharing our new home with them. So I do hope no one thinks I am being worldly or boastful here – those are not my intentions.

SO. Here comes the house tour.

I will warn you, there are lots of pictures :)

1st up: The Foyer? aka front Entrance & Half Bath

IMG_0078copyIMG_0079copy

The Half Bath is right as you walk in our home, to the left.
If you take a right when you walk in, you will enter…

The School Room/Den

IMG_0069copy

IMG_0073copy

IMG_0074copyIMG_0070copy

We love our school room! Its very spacious.
I also love that it is close to the kitchen.

IMG_0067copy

The Dining Room (formal?? :) – it becomes a work table most days)

IMG_0063copy

As you can see there are boxes to the right we still have to put away.
Beside the dining room, you will then enter…

Our Kitchen

IMG_0061copy

IMG_0060copy

It is actually very similar to our former kitchen!
We eat most of our meals at the smaller table set in the actual kitchen.

Connected to our kitchen is the…

Living Room

IMG_0059copy

It is probably my favorite room in the house.
ITS SO COMFORTABLE!

IMG_0058copy

Alright… if you go up the stairs, you will enter our walk way area.
This walk way area is connected to our laundry room.

As you can see from these photos, today was LAUNDRY day :)
I also had to vacuum the entire house, so that is in the photos too.

IMG_0052copyIMG_0051copy

Straight up the stairs to the right is the…

Older Boys Bedroom

IMG_0045copy

I recently switched their bedding. There was bedding provided.
I had to wash sheets though, and decided to put the old spider man bedding up.

Our boys were surprising excited about this!
I think it brought back a lot of great memories for them.

The blues in the bedding don’t match the room attire as well as the other bedding.
But thats ok, its a boys bedroom, it doesn’t have to be perfect :)

IMG_0047copy

Right beside the boys bedroom, is…

The Guest Bedroom

IMG_0044copy

Across the hall from that, is our…

Boys Bathroom (aka guest bathroom)

IMG_0035copy

Keep going and you will then reach…

Owen’s Bedroom

IMG_0038copy

I do love Owen’s room. I think his is my 2nd favorite room :)

IMG_0039copy

IMG_0040copy

IMG_0041copy

Now if you back track, to the steps, and take a right down the long hall…
That then enters…

The Master Bedroom

IMG_0053copy

IMG_0055copy

and in our bedroom, you can also access the…

Master Bath

IMG_0057copy

As you can see, I didn’t bother cleaning off the counters for this photo :)
Look beside me and you can see I have a HUGE TUB! That’s a 1st for us.

That concludes my house tour :)

The house has a full basement… ill save those photos for another day. My husband has made himself a MAN CAVE… equip with his gym… and a desk/lamp area for him to study, read, etc…

Its funny, he had all that set up and I had no clue, until I went down to get something out of a box. I like that he has his own space though! I think he likes it too ;-)

Now to those who may wonder, where did all this furniture come from? The bedding isn’t familiar? – the decor different… well, this house was full furnished… that included bedding… decor… and even dishes. Because those who come into this home only stay a year or two, it just makes things easier. This way those moving in, don’t have to rearrange furniture, unload all their boxes, etc…

So all of our stuff, besides a few items, are in the basement of the house. (we kept out a few pieces of furniture, like our boys school tables, a shelf, storage cabinet and toy chest… and obviously toys/clothes).

So when the day comes we have to move… the job will be minimal.

What is so weird though… is that so much of what is in this home, is my taste :) – so it does feel like our home… even though its not our stuff.

Again, we are very blessed!

So thankful for this home.

Value of Pain

You know…

One thing I am learning throughout this process here.

Is that no matter who the person…

What their story is…

How old they are.

Who they are.

How many kids they have…

Or how badly screwed up their life may be.

The value of pain should never be measured on the circumstance of individuals apart.

I’m not sure if that makes sense.

But have you ever had moments in your life, where you would think…

“That doesn’t compare to what I’ve gone through…”

Or “I can’t imagine going through that.”

I think most of us have.

We each live different lives.

And we each face trials… hurt… disappointment… and so on.

But the value of that pain is no less than anothers.

I am finding such truth in that.

It hurts, no matter what a person has been through.

This morning in group one of the ladies shared this piece of scripture with us…

1 When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem,[a]
it was like a dream!
2 We were filled with laughter,
and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said,
“What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”
3 Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us!
What joy!

4 Restore our fortunes, Lord,
as streams renew the desert.
5 Those who plant in tears
will harvest with shouts of joy.

6 They weep as they go to plant their seed,
but they sing as they return with the harvest.

Psalm 126

I loved how she put her thoughts into words.

Throughout her trails…
The river raft ride, as she put it :)

…she is now beginning to dream again…

It took tears…

weeping, walls… and time.

and I am sure more will come, throughout life.

But through the Lord there is joy & healing, no matter the circumstance.

Messy Sink

Just so you know, this is a familiar scene in our home.

IMG_9819copy

A messy sink.

IMG_9823copy-2

It all manages to get cleaned some how or another :) – in this particular instance, my dish washer was FULL of clean dishes… so I had to wash the rest by hand. I didn’t want to have to run the dish washer a 3rd time in one day. Crazy huh?! I tell you, with 3 little ones, you wash and clean A LOT of cups, plates and more. Especially when you are busy cooking 3 meals a day and baking in between. Not all weeks are like this of course ;-) – but they do come.

No complaints…

I love good smelling soap btw – makes washing dishes easier for some reason. Meyers is one of my favorites! Worth the extra money for the smell it gives :)
