Layers

Not to long ago I posted on facebook about my thinking about cutting my hair again. Some of you may remember the horrible hair cut I got years ago when I was pregnant with Owen.

Should I remind you? :)

Ok, sure, why not. I have posted this same exact thing a while ago – but for those who are new to the blog you may have missed it. Those who aren’t new, will enjoy the laughs at my misfortune :) – and possibly cringe at the image of what I looked like at one point.

I went in to get my bangs trimmed years ago.

This was the result…

When I got home and saw it (some how I didnt notice when I left the salon) – I knew I had to get it fixed – so I went to another local salon and then I came home looking like this…

Can I just say, that photo brings me nightmares :)
It really is a cross between Jim Carey’s Dumb and Dumber hair cut and a Chinese Bowl Cut.

As soon as Travis saw it, he said “go back.” I had no clue what to do except to just chop it all off.

The result.
No hair :)

But honestly, it wasnt so bad – it could of been worse. I could of had the hair cut above that one. Compared to what it was, going to a pixie cut was ok :) – although the timing wasn’t ideal. With my being pregnant with Owen, having major breakouts with the hormones flushing my system – I would of preferred to have some hair.

So after all that drama I vowed to “1″ – cut my own bangs! and “2″ grow out my hair for years… Although I did have a friend in NC who cut my hair a few times after the “bad cuts” – and she always did a great job trimming things up.

Now that it is long – I have to say it is a lot to deal with. With summer approaching and the heat coming – the idea of a short cut is so appealing.

I felt that my hair had gotten to such a length that it didn’t really flatter my face… so I opted to get some short layers put in yesterday and so far I love them.

Got layers in my hair. Thanks Charlene!!

So here is to making small changes :)

My friend btw cut the layers :) – she came to my house and did them, while we chit chatted and laughed. So much fun. I btw love my hair being played with. If someone wants to make my day, play with my hair for an hour. It is such a great feeling!

What are ways you keep from getting bored with your hair? Are you an impulse hair cutter? :)

The Birth

For those who don’t follow me on facebook, you may not have seen these photos.
These were taken on Wednesday morning :)

To view entire series from the birth go to my photo blog.

To all the tech camera peeps :)
For these photos I used:

- Canon 5D Classic
- 50mm 1.4 (majority of the time)
- 85mm 1.8 (for some of the closer shots)
I shot at 1600-3200 ISO – and my Aperture was around 1.8
On a rare occasion I went to 1.4 if it was really dark.

I find with photographing a birth light can be so tricky. One minute the light is incredibly dim – usually when mom is laboring… the next there are key spot lights coming from the ceiling, the side or even from behind. Because of that my settings often times changed. That is why shooting in manual is so important. Helps with all the crazy lights :) – but aren’t hospital lights dramatic? I think they add some cool drama to the pictures. So yay for weird spot lights. :-D

Smarter Living

The guestion is what are ways that we can create a smarter life and a better planet. It is one of those things that sometimes I am hesitant to write on, since I know I am far from perfect in our life style choices. However, I do believe we do some small things that do make an impact…

I think living a smart lifer and creating a better planet can reach so many other areas besides just “eating healthy” or “using cloth diapers.” Both of which we do [on most days;-) ]… The way we manage our finances… what we buy, how much we buy and even what we teach our children all have an impact on life.

To keep this from going to long and getting way to confusing, I will just touch on a few things I feel we do, that do make an impact.

    Way we reuse grocery bags
  1. Recycling and reusing. From the times our kids take time to put a can out in the bin by the garage door, to reusing a plastic grocery bag as a trash bag, instead of just tossing it.

  2. Trying to reuse can really branch out into so many other areas. Shopping 2nd hand, passing clothes from one child to another or even swapping clothing with friends who’s children out grow what they have. We all like to buy something new from time to time, that is fine. We all deserve a nice new outfit or shoes ;-) – but imagine the savings and resources saved if we used and shared more.

  3. Turning off the lights. What an easy and simple way to save money and energy! Pumping up the thermostat a few degrees or down :) – depending on the season.

  4. Trying not to clutter the house with “stuff” – so hard to do right? – From the trips to walmart to buy a few “needs”, you some how wind up in the toys or home goods dept… buying stuff you really don’t need. We don’t need a lot and I am finding less is so much more!

The list could go on… and on…. and on…

With today’s economy… I think making wise choices with what we consume to how we live and treat our planet, is so important.

My husband has been unemployed since Aug 2011… We are so there with making do :) – cutting corners and living modestly. It makes you wonder why on earth you use to spend so flippantly.

The idea of a simple life style is so appealing to me. Although I do love the perks of modern technology (most days) – and the convenience of a large shopping center.

Small steps like this really do make an impact.

Now, I’m curious. Tell me how you can create a smarter life and better planet, and encourage positive change for generations to come. Comment below to be entered to win a Haier Energy Star Dehumidifier! Official Contest Rules.

Laboring

I got a txt at 3am this morning.
My client Melissa was in labor! So I was off to the hospital.
Her labor slowed down a bit but she had him rather quick for it being her 1st.

Being able to capture a birth really is amazing. I love being able to do it. Sure brings back memories too… they grow way to fast!

I mean seriously, wasn’t Owen just that small?
